The Purpose of this research is to describe how the implementation of using food recipes and shopping bills for understanding social arithmetic to seventh grade student at SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya through Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) Approach. This type of research is a classroom action research (CAR), which consists of two cycles. The seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya have been involved in the learning activities. Data was collected from the student learning outcomes in writing, the results of the interview, the result of observation, and the results of field notes. The results showed that the implementation of mathematical learning to understanding social arithmetic using recipes and shopping bills through RME approach can be seen in students’ conceptual understanding and procedurall. Conceptual understanding of student learning outcomes shows in the form of students’ final grades are from the first cycle to second cycle has completed the classical overall. Understanding procedural seen from the proportion of errors at the end of the test answers that students from the first cycle to the second cycle decreased the proportion of error of about 70% to about 30 %. This study shows that understanding the students learning activities are also categorized “good” so that the research is successful
